We love to travel, but we do not love to haul a bunch of luggage around when we travel. With each child that we’ve added to our family, traveling lite has become more important to us. We are finally out of the diaper and diaper bag traveling stage, and I’m looking forward to when we will be out of the car seat and stroller stage. We are almost there!

My kids always have so much that they want to take with them. With 4 kids, if we were to let each child pack their own suitcase for a trip we would have 6 suitcases and 6 backpacks in one minivan. Fitting all of that in the minivan with a stroller too is a bit of a challenge. Plus we’ve discovered that the brands of minivans that are usually used as rentals have a much smaller trunk space than what we are used to.

When we travel by air, if we are flying on a budget airline such as Frontier, we will do our best to pack in 6 bags that qualify as personal items and completely avoid having to pay for any carry on or checked bags. If we are going for a longer trip we will pay for one carry on suitcase and share it.

Getting everyone to fit everything they need for one week into a personal size bag can be a challenge if you don’t have the right supplies to help you fit everything in the bag. And don’t forget you need to leave room for souvenirs too!

We use these bags by Narwey, and they are the exact dimensions of a personal size item on Frontier airlines. (I will do another post with more detail about these bags later).

My kids love to travel with their blankets (and so do I!) so that’s one more thing that has to fit in this bag. By using a jumbo size Acrodo Space Saver Compression Bag, you can easily fit your blanket in your Narwey bag along with everything else.

This 10 count box of Compression Bags contains 5 large size bags and 5 jumbo size bags.

The jumbo size bag is the perfect size for a blanket. Our blankets are The Big One Supersoft Plush Throw blankets from Kohl’s. They are oversized and measure 60″ x 72″.

To use the compression bag, simply put the blanket inside and leave a little bit of space at the bottom of the bag.

There is a removable clip on the bag, so if it’s not attached, simply slide it on. These work similar to ziploc baggies. Slide the clip across the bag to get a tight seal.

Once the space saver bag is sealed, slowly start rolling the bag up. The first time you use the bag you will feel like the bag is about to pop on you. Gently press down on the bag until the valve starts to engage and you hear the sound of air pushing out of the bag. The air should be coming out at the bottom of the bag where you left the gap.

Keep rolling the space saver compression bag until you can no longer push any more air out. Then unroll the bag and it’s ready to pack.

These two blankets are the same size, and you can see how much thinner the one on the right is. An added bonus is that the other things that you put in your bag can’t get lost in all the folds of the blanket, like it would if you packed your blanket like the one on the left.

You can easily pack your clothing items in these bags too in order to save space in your suitcase. Not only are these bags great for travel, but they’re also great for storing seasonal clothing items, or anything around your house that you want to compress and store.

We have used our Acrodo Space Saver Compression bags dozens of times and haven’t had any issues with them. The kids can easily pack their own blankets in the compression bags by themselves, although Rob does do the best job of getting them the most compact.

If you’re more of a video person, I also made a video tutorial for how to use the Acrodo Space Saver Compression Bags.
